Mindseye is very, very not good | Friends Per Second Ep #72
PLUS: Brendan Greene interview and our Switch 2 thoughts
Aaaaaand we’re back after a fun and very busy Summer Game Fest.
We recorded that episode in-person and if you missed it, definitely go and check it out. We had the wonderful Alex Jordan from The Alters on as a guest, plus podcast goblin Tam co-hosted it with us. We chatted about what it was like for Lucy to be up on the SGF stage, our favourite reveals, and of course, all the games we were able to go hands-on with at Play Days, including Resident Evil 9.
It would be remiss of me not to mention Ralph’s incredible Expedition 33 documentary, which is a must-watch! It's incredibly insightful and more than worth the wait. Definitely queue it up.
On to this week’s episode! Unfortunately Mindseye is not good… at all. Jake played through it and doesn’t hold back. Lucy and Ralph have been playing more Magic the Gathering, and Lucy just can’t stop thinking about the Roman Empire. There are also Switch 2 impressions now that we’ve all got it in our homes, a chat with PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, and Baby Feet. You’re welcome.
Games mentioned: Resident Evil 9, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, Eriksholm, A Plague’s Tale, Mecha Break, Tony Hawk 3+4, Destiny 2: Edge of Fate, Shadow Labyrinth, Grounded 2, Tales of the Shire, Donkey Kong Bananza, Wildgate, Crimson Desert, Tears of the Kingdom
Misc. mentions: Andor, AI sleep stories, The History of Rome by Mike Duncan, Magic the Gathering, Hardcore History with Dan Carlin
Switch 2 discussion
The Switch 2 is out! It may not be a huge generational leap like we used to get and the launch lineup is lacking, but it’s a nice piece of kit that we’ve all been enjoying playing Mario Kart World on. Jake, admittedly, slathered his in Mountain Dew and dirt, which we do not condone.
Games mentioned: Xenoblade, Pokemon Shield, Deltarune, Soulcalibur 2, Mario Kart World, Tears of the Kingdom, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 8, Cyberpunk 2077, Bravely Default, Metroid Prime 4, The Witcher 3, Yakuza 0, Switch 2 Welcome Tour, ARMS
Misc mentions:
Interview with Brendan Greene (PlayerUnknown)

Hello there.
As we now know that Ralph likes prog rock/metal I really think he should give the band named after him (lol) a chance.
From Croatia: The Ralph - D.I.G. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDucqxp0pyY).
Another recommendation, from Denmark: VOLA - Stray the Skies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EipdyUZfrG0).
Hi Friends (per second),
In the coverage of 28 Years Later Alex Garland is quite open about the fact that playing Resident Evil provided a strong spark of inspiration for the first film. I find it weird that I've never heard a filmmaker admit to taking inspiration from a game in that way and it's a nice contrast to the insistance that the Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning train sequence wasn't inspired by Uncharted 2. What other non-adaptation films in the past 20 years do you suspect have taken scenes or ideas from games?
